Who we are

The Vietnam Culture Development Society is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded by a group of Vietnamese students in the United States. We are incorporated in the state of Delaware in November, 2006 and are headquartered in Jamaica, NY. Our primary goal is to promote English literacy in Vietnam.

Our mission and vision

Acknowledging the need of foreign textbooks as well as books in general from readers in Vietnam, especially Vietnamese college students, we set our primary goal to collecting books, journals and school supplies and donating them back to our country. Our desire is to bring the new generation in Vietnam the opportunity to reach out to the world and take a look at what their peers in other countries are doing and achieving. We share the belief in our youth's talents and potentials, which gave us the courage and inspiration to contribute our small parts to help bridge the gap of education facilities that has been constraining our ability to compete with other countries in this era of globalization.

The foundation of VCDS

The VCDS was founded under the initiative and assistance of the Myanmar Youth Association. Since then, we have been receiving invalueable helps from various institutions and individuals who put in their efforts unconditionally.
Dr. Hung P. Le - our chairman, Professor Win Win Kyi, Mr Kyaw Myaing were the ones who gave us the invaluable supports and encouragements before the very beginning days of our organization. In terms of legal procedures, we are indebted to the generous assistance from Ms Frances Adkins and Ms Yen Chu, who offered to give legal advices and execute necessary legal processes in the application for the incorporation of VCDS.
Also, it is impossible for us to carry out our mission without the help of all the volunteers. Their helps, whether in forms of financial, physical or spritual support, are what keeps VCDS in operation.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of you, and we hope to continue receive your supports and commitments.

Books, Journals and materials that are of high demand from universities and libraries in Vietnam include:

• Textbooks and journals in all subject areas and in all educational levels: Architecture, Business and Banking, Communication, Economic, Education, Law, Medicine, Science, Social Policy, Psychology etc.
  
• Literature for ESL students
• General books in all areas of life improvement, how-to books
  
• Trade and reference books: dictionaries, atlases, maps, national geographic books, charts, etc.
• Children's books: books for kindergarten with pictures, non-fiction, comics, etc.
• CD-ROMs and other reference materials
• School supplies: notebooks, pencils, bags, playing tools, teaching materials etc.
  

Because of our budget restraints, we could only arrange pick-up for books and other materials in the area within 50 miles of our headquarter (Queens, NY). Otherwise, we would highly appreciate if donated books could be shipped to us at 80-54 Chevy Chase St., Jamaica Estates, NY, 11432.

Donated books are best to be no later than 7 years after the date of publication. However, older books are also welcome as long as they are in "like new" condition.
