On November 1, 2007, members of the Vietnam Culture Development Society got together and prepared for the first shipment of donated books and journals from the US to Vietnam. More than 5000 books and journals were loaded onto a truck to be transported to New Jersey port and then finally to Haiphong port in Vietnam. This shipment contained all books and journals collected by VCDS members from its beginning days in Novermber 2006. With the support from the volunteers as well as from all the generous donors, VCDS was able to collect a considerably huge amount of English written materials for the Vietnamese readers.
The shipment was made possible with the transportation costs covered by generous cash donations from many individuals and companies. This was an important milestone marking the first major achievement of the organization. Included in the container were books and journals suitable for students, researchers, the general readers, and of course the children in Vietnam. |
